With an overall record of 22-26 (10-6 last week), TSN football analyst Chris Schultz is back with his Week 4 selections in the NFL in Risky Business. This weeks games include an NFC North battle between the Green Bay Packers and the Chicago Bears, the undefeated Philadelphia Eagles visiting the San Francisco 49ers and the rather ordinary-looking New England Patriots taking on the Kansas City Chiefs on Monday night. NY Giants at Washington (-3) The Giants had their best game of this year on offence beating Houston 30-17 and Eli Manning had a turnover-free game. On defence, New York held Houston to, two and 12 on third down. But a short week on the road is a tough challenge. Is Kirk Cousins a better quarterback than RG3? He is right now. Redskins at home to cover. Green Bay at Chicago (-1) The Bears have injuries in the secondary that could make a major difference in this game. Its one thing to survive a game against the Jets with Geno Smith and no dominate receivers. But taking on Aaron Rodgers, Jordy Nelson and Randall Cobb is totally different. Running backs Eddie Lacy and Matt Forte are also struggling, each averaging a little over three yards a carry. Something is missing in the Packers passing game and to think they could be 1-3 by the end of the month is surprising. This one will be close and if it was in Green Bay, Packers all the way. But alas, its not. Take the Bears. Buffalo at Houston (-3.5) It was a really bad game for the Bills last week against San Diego. EJ Manuel went 7-for-21 and if he does that again I think the conversation about Kyle Orton will begin. With Houston, its a similar story. Ryan Fitzpatrick was 2-of-12 on third downs and threw three interceptions. But most distressing was the 176 yards rushing allowed to Giants running back Rashad Jennings. Its a tough one because both teams have to prove themselves all over again. The big unknown is the health of Arian Foster and his hamstring. It should be low scoring, but Houston at home is the edge. Texans cover, so take Houston. Tennessee (-7) at Indianapolis After an impressive win at KC, the Titans have lost two in a row being outscored 59-17. Also, history is on the side of the Colts as the Titans have lost 10-of-11 at Lucas Oil Stadium. Concerns about Jake Locker at quarterback may push head coach Ken Whisenhunt to consider Charlie Whitehurst or Zack Mettenberger. Andrew Luck should be able to put together a good game plan and will prevail. The only thing holding the Colts back from greatness is an exceptional pass rush. It still may not be an issue against the Titans. Colts cover the seven. Carolina at Baltimore (-3) Carolinas 37-19 loss to the Steelers was humbling. Theres no doubt Steve Smith wants to produce against his former employer and the Panthers know that too. Of even bigger concern is the run defence in Carolina which after three games has allowed over six yards a carry. If Baltimore can take advantage, this could be an easy win. I have to go with Baltimore because against similar competition, they beat Pittsburgh 26-6. Ravens at home. Detroit at NY Jets (Pick em) Both teams have a good defensive front seven, so if neither gets the running game going and it comes down to quarterbacks, Matt Stafford is the choice. Holding the Packers to seven says a lot defensively for Detroit and yes, it was a divisional game. But the Jets have secondary injury problems and if they try to blitz Stafford, he has enough experience - not to mention Megatron - to make them think twice. In a pick em, Ill pick Detroit. Tampa Bay at Pittsburgh (-7.5) The Bucs were completely embarrassed last Thursday night against Atlanta. They will have 10 days to figure out what happened but the fact of the matter is they played without three starters on defence. Lovie Smith wont accept another game like this and Tampa Bay will respond. Pittsburgh looked great on Sunday night with LeVeon Bell with Antonio Brown becoming very productive. The Steelers should win but with the Bucs a bit healthier and Pittsburgh missing two linebackers it should be close. Take the Bucs. Miami (-4.5) at Oakland I really thought the Dolphins were ready to roll in beating New England 33-20, but losing to Buffalo and KC and being outscored 63-25 certainly changed my mind. Both teams must improve on third downs. Against the Chiefs, Miami was 4-for-15 and allowed KC to convert at 50 per cent. With the Raiders in a 16-9 loss, their offence went 4-for-15 and New England was 50 per cent. And theres questions already surrounding Ryan Tannehill. Derek Carr is a starter until proven otherwise. So its a 1-2 team against an 0-3 team, but the 0-3 team is at home, so take the Raiders on points. Jacksonville at San Diego (-13.5) The Chargers are a very good time-of-possession team, dominant in the Week 2 win against Seattle and it was and a big part of their win over Buffalo last weekend, 22-10 . Will Blake Bortles make a difference? Yes, is the logical answer. Hes a good quarterback who can be great, if he can get some help from those around him. The Jaguars defence has simply not lived up to expectations with 34 , 41 and 44 points allowed in their three losses. Even without Ryan Mathews and Danny Woodhead, San Diego should win, but I dont like the points. Jacksonville on points. Philadelphia at San Francisco (-4.5) I dont know if this is a compliment or a concern, but the Eagles are the first team in NFL history to trail by 10 or more points in each of its first three games and still come from behind and win. I do know this is a major concern for the 49ers in that they lost not to Carson Palmer as quarterback with Arizona, but to back up Drew Stanton. While the Eagles are an exceptional second-half team, scoring 73 per cent of all their points, the 49esr have been shut out in the fourth, 31-0. Philadelphia. Atlanta (-3) at Minnesota Im surprised its only 3. Atlanta has 10 days to get ready, while this is the debut of Teddy Bridgewater. Matt Ryan to Julio Jones is the best quarterback-receiver combination in all of football right now. In his last eight games, Jones has 64 catches for 945 yards, a very Calvin Johnson-like number. If Atlanta can jump on Minnesota early, it could put young Bridgewater in a difficult come-from-behind situation, the worst-case scenario for any quarterback . This one no longer in the dome, but outdoors in TCF Bank Stadium, and Atlanta is not the same outdoors. Yet, I will take them off of the 24-10 loss in Cincinnati and take advantage of youth at quarterback in Minnesota. New Orleans (-3) at Dallas Remember that saying by Dennis Green, They are what we thought they were in reference to a loss by his Cardinals to the Bears a few years ago? Well, with Dallas you cant say that. They are not what we thought they are at all, but much better. And everything about the recent success has to do with DeMarco Murray. The Cowboys are committing to him on the run and he has produced three-straight 100 yard-rushing games. For the Saints, they are not who we thought they were, either . They are 1-2 and are just not the same on the road. They have lost seven of eight on the road and both losses this year, in Cincinnati and Cleveland, came on the last play. Still, Dallas was down by 21 to Austin Davis and St Louis. Exhilarating that they came back to win, but disturbing that it happened in the first place. Saints. New England (-4) vs. Kansas City The Patriots have been unimpressive, while the Chiefs are just beginning to show signs of improvement. If not for a penalty on the last possession by the Raiders, last Sundays game in New England could have been pushed into overtime. And, if not for a similar play against Denver, Kansas could have pushed their Week 2 game against the Broncos into an extra period. We have two completely different quarterbacks here. For Tom Brady, his 150th win only puts him behind only Brett Favre (186) and Peyton Manning (169) for most wins. Alex Smith was turnover-free in a 34-15 win over Miami. The Patriots miss Logan Mankins in the run game. KC is a home underdog. Take the Chiefs. Babe Ruth Jersey . The kind he has every so often. The kind he has when Dwyane Wade sits. James scored 43 points -- 25 in a bewildering first-quarter shooting display -- and Chris Bosh added 21, leading the Miami Heat to a 100-96 win Tuesday night over the Cleveland Cavaliers, who played their first game without injured All-Star guard Kyrie Irving. Don Larsen Jersey . Henrik Lundqvist, New York Rangers (4) – He had a strong game Sunday; was very good in tight with big saves on Crosby, Malkin and Neal in-crease. David Robertson Jersey . -- Two-time AL Cy Young Award winner Johan Santana agreed Tuesday to a minor league contract with the Baltimore Orioles as he tries to come back from the second major operation on his left shoulder. Aaron Hicks Jersey .com) - The Vancouver Canucks recovered from a fluke goal early last time out to knock off one of the top teams in the league. It was just before the 2008 World Championships in Halifax and Team USA was holding a pre-tournament camp in Portland, Maine. Jeff Halpern, serving as the American captain, was informing and inviting teammates to a fishing trip off the coast of Maine, in a gulf of the Atlantic Ocean. He wondered if Phil Kessel, then a 20-year-old playing for the Boston Bruins, wanted to come along. I get seasick in the bathtub, Kessel said, according to a later recounting by his future boss in Toronto, Brian Burke. I guess thats a no, Halpern responded. No, Kessel said, if the guys are going Im going. So he went, puked his guts out, but did it because was a team function, Burke beamed proudly on the day Kessel was officially traded to the Maple Leafs, defending the character of his newest asset, one that came with a high price ultimately. More than six long years later, Burke long since deposed as the teams president and general manager, and many of those same questions still surround Kessel, now 27-years-old and the highest-paid player in Toronto. Can the Leafs win a Cup with Kessel at the forefront? And if not, which seems to be case, then what should Brendan Shanahan and a revamped management group do about it? What can they do about it? Kessel remains under contract until 2022 at an annual cap hit of $8 million or more than 11 percent of the current cap. Is a player with that contract and those attributes tradable? And if so, then how tradable? What kind of market would exist for such a unique talent and personality? What kind of return would a player like Kessel net in a climate thats become increasingly wise to the functions of team success? Do the negatives of Kessels game outweigh the positives? Are the Leafs better in the long-term by trading by far their most talented player? Does that put them on the right path toward chasing a Cup? These are only some of the questions facing Shanahan as it pertains to the face of Torontos franchise, a player whos scored more goals than anyone but Alexander Ovechkin and Steven Stamkos since the start of the 2011-12 season, more points than anyone but Claude Giroux and Evgeni Malkin. I just want to help the team win here, Kessel said on the day he was first introduced as a Leaf. Thats the main goal here. Its not individual goals, its me coming in here doing whatever I can to help the organization and the team win hockey games. What wasnt in doubt then or now is the quality of those offensive gifts. Kessel remains one of the most dangerous and feared players in the league with a shot that may be unequaled in terms of the quickness with which it launches off the stick. Kessel, who has had a blasé kind of year, still sits around the top-10 in league scoring and remains on pace to either match or set new career-highs in a slew of offensive categories. Hes had several great years, Burkes replacement, Dave Nonis, said after re-signing Kessel for eight years and $64 million on the eve of last season. If you look at his point totals and his goal totals over the last two and three seasons hes up there with some pretty elite players. But for all the mesmerizing things Kessel can do on the ice, he detracts just about as much. Hes prone to bits of laziness – both on and off the ice – lacks noticeable effort in his own zone and often ends up costing his team more goals than he scores. Kessel and his two regular linemates, James van Riemsdyk and Tyler Bozak, have been the Leafs worst possession trio this season. They are consistently and unnervingly hemmed in the defensive zone for extended periods. Its not a new issue either, its one that dates back to the days of Ron Wilson, Kessels first coach in Toronto. Phils problem, said Wilson during an interview with TSN Radio on Tuesday, hes two weeks on and two weeks off and you just hope that you can get him playing his best hockey for as long as possible.dddddddddddd You cant rely on Phil. Its just the way it is. You have to know that Phil is going to give you everything hes got for two or three weeks and then for the next two or three weeks everything seems to go wrong for Phil. Thats just the way it is. The Leafs signed Kessel for the long haul under the premise, seemingly, that his potent production would be impossible to replace. But that assumes that the good outweighs the bad and that may not be the case, especially if Kessel assumes the role of the teams best and highest-paid player. It also ignores the grander question of whether Kessel can help a team achieve the ultimate goal of winning a Cup. Boston, facing cap troubles in the fall of 2009, decided not. They pulled the trigger to move Kessel after he scored 36 goals as a 21-year-old. They won their Cup two years later. Claude Julien, Ron Wilson, Randy Carlyle, they all tried to change Kessel into something he was not, to mold him into a piece of a winning product. They could not. Whats to suggest then that something will change under the next head coach in Toronto? You never change a leopards spots, Wilson said. I think you paint over some of those spots, but theyll eventually shine through the paint and thats just too bad. Kessel is an incredibly capable and gifted player and he could probably be a piece on a winning team, just not the piece. Could he play the Patrick Kane role on a deeper team? Perhaps and perhaps thats the type of team willing to spring for his talents. Beyond just the burdensome decision of even trading Kessel is the potential return. What kind of value does Kessel have in a trade with the amount of money hes owed and the questions surrounding his performance and personality? How many teams would even be interested? And for a team like Toronto, one thats not contending for a Cup anytime soon, what kind of risk is there in hanging on to Kessel as he nears and then surpasses age 30, when the gifts that make him such a special talent start to wither if even a little? Kessel is the biggest piece of a web that needs to be untangled. The Leafs have too many flawed players locked up for too long, a core thats proven barely good enough to qualify for the playoffs, let alone win a Cup. Kessel is not the only problem – far from it – and on a different team he may not be a problem at all, but he also may not be part of the solution either, especially as the leading act. Is it worth sacrificing his tremendous gifts, though, for the betterment of the team in the long-term? These are really difficult questions. Moving on from Kessel is not a simple decision. Not many players, simply put, can do what he does. The Leafs would be worse, far worse really, without Kessel in the short-term. But theyve also been a badly flawed team with him at the forefront and that seems unlikely to change anytime soon. Kessel, ultimately, is the elephant in the room that Shanahan and the teams front office will have to confront one day, if they havent already. Moving on from the player, personality, and contract is a decision they probably should make given the bleak history of his time in Toronto as the front man, but its certainly no easy choice. This whole job is a high-wire act without a net, said Burke, Shanahans predecessor as team president, on the day Kessel was introduced. Every deal we make were betting on a human being, were betting on Phil, taking a chance. Thats how it works. I dont think were taking much of a chance.
